The 2023 Geumgangdae Youth Football Tournament, the nation’s most prestigious ‘Football Dreamers’ tournament, concluded successfully in Hwaseong on the 8th.
Hosted by the Gangwon Minjoo Ilbo and organized by the Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Football Association and the Hwaseong County Sports Association, and sponsored by the Hwaseong County Council, Hwaseong Education Support Agency, Hwaseong Police Department, Hwaseong Fire Department, and Hwaseong County Football Association, a total of 69 outstanding teams from all over the country participated in the tournament from the 2nd to the 8th at two stadiums, Hwaseong Life Sports Park and Culture and Sports Park.
The tournament was well-received for the fair conduct of the matches by the supervisors and referees of the Korea Football Association even in the sweltering heat.
In addition, the Hwangeong Military Sports Association and the military sports facility team led the successful tournament by checking the safety facilities of the stadium and supplementing the lighting facilities for night games. In particular, the youth teams participating in the tournament were able to perform at their best as they were provided with the latest stadium and training facilities, and it was an opportunity for local residents to recognize the prominence of youth soccer.
In addition, families who visited Hwangeong with the teams during their vacations made memories of Hwangeong by visiting major tourist attractions such as the lake path and water playgrounds during the daytime when there were no matches, and contributed to the revitalization of the commercial area by using local accommodation and restaurants during the seven days of the tournament.
In fact, the tournament was divided into two divisions, U-11 (34 teams) and U-12 (35 teams), and brackets were organized so that all teams could play every day, and most of the teams stayed in Hwangeong, making the local business district smile.The Geumgangdae Football Tournament has established itself as the best tournament in Korea by establishing the 2021 youth tournament in Hwangeong 25 years after the 1996 middle school tournament.
This year’s successful conclusion of the third edition of the tournament has been praised for raising the reputation and authority of Geumgangdaegi to a new level.
