Nagoya lost 2-3 to Kyoto Sanga in the 25th round of the 2024 J1 League on April 7 at Sanga Stadium in Kyoto, Japan.
It was a must-win for Nagoya. Before this match, Nagoya was in the mid-to-lower half of the standings, and three points would have propelled them above the mid-table. Kyoto’s recent form had been good, but they were in the bottom half of the standings themselves, so a win was expected.
However, they were unable to get the win after a hard-fought match away from home. Nagoya was out-shot, out-possessed, and out-passed. They scored two goals in the first half to take the lead, but conceded three goals in the second half to lose 2-3. This was largely due to the ejection of Takuya Uchida in the second minute of the second half.
After the game, criticism was directed at Uchida and the club. Some fans expressed their anger by directly mentioning Uchida’s name as a factor in the loss. While a certain amount of criticism was acceptable, some of it was over the top. In response, Nagoya issued an official statement asking for people to refrain from criticizing beyond a reasonable level.
